Alltech opens new treatment plant in Serbia
Alltech has opened a new effluent treatment plant for its yeast facility in Serbia, while incorporating a cogeneration unit that will produce heat and power for the facility.
The plant is the first in the region to integrate both effluent treatment and power generation.
The treatment facility is a combination of both anaerobic and aerobic treatment plants, and the new system will convert biological waste into biogas which will then be used to generate electricity and contribute to the facilities gas and power requirements.
This will result in the provision of 37 percent of its present requirements for natural gas and contribute to 34 percent of its electrical needs.
In addition to gas and electrical supply, the hot water generated from the cogeneration plant will be utilised to heat various processes in the facility and to heat the anaerobic reactor, which is maintained at 37OC for optimum efficiency.
The plant which is located in Senta, has the capacity to produce over 8,000 tonnes of yeast a year. It employs over 240 staff in the region and is the manufacturing facility for Alltech's proprietary yeast products.
