Brunei to tap EU seafood market
Brunei is looking to upgrade the quality control system of its Fisheries Department to meet standard requirements of importing countries such as the EU.
Currently, Brunei exports shrimps in small quantities to countries like Japan, Korea and the US.
The Department of Fisheries Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, in its effort to further develop fish products for the global market, recently organised a seminar on the strengthening of food inspection and certification for shrimp and bivalve mollusks.
Hamdan Jaafar from the Malaysian Fisheries Department was invited to facilitate the seminar as well as present the guidelines, standard inspection and certification systems.
Hjh Hasnah bte Ibrahim, director of the Department of Fisheries, said the seminar would benefit the participants through capacity building and upgrading of the monitoring and certification system for shrimps and bivalve molluscs.
