Germany's 2008 wheat area seen up 6-7 percent on year
Germany's 2008 wheat acreage is estimated to be up 6 percent-7 percent on the year at approximately 3.2 million hectares, Hamburg-based grain trading house Toepfer International said in a monthly report on Friday.
Toepfer also estimates Germany's winter barley acreage will edge up to 1.5 million hectares from 1.4 million in 2007.
Meanwhile Germany's winter rapeseed area is estimated to fall by about 10 percent to 1.37 million hectares.
A sharp rise in global wheat prices this season made that crop more attractive to farmers during the autumn planting period. Those crops will then be harvested next summer.
