South Korea's October cattle slaughter takes a dive
Meat and Livestock Australia reports that cattle slaughter dropped 58 percent in October on-month, and 29 percent year-on-year, to 46,289 head, following the Chuseok festivities.
For the period of January to October 2009, however, Korean cattle slaughter went up by 9.4 percent (58,722 head) year-on-year.
MLA also noted that total Korean cattle slaughter in September increased 74 percent and also up in August this year by 69 percent on the same month last year in anticipation of increased beef demand for Chuseok.
Chuseok is a three day harvest festival and holiday celebration which takes place in August.
