Peru's seafood export to China increases 25 percent
Peru's seafood exports to China reached US$274 million during the first eight months of the year, growing 25 percent from the same period last year, according to the Peruvian Export Promotion Agency.
China is one of Peru's largest market for seafood, the report said. Peru's seafood exports to China have been growing from strength to strength in recent years as demand soars in China. Main products include frozen cuttlefish, flying fish eggs and frozen fish fillet.
The report predicts full year export of seafood to China would reach US$600 million, similar to 2005 levels.
Seafood products are Peru's second largest revenue earner, accounting for 10 percent of total Peruvian exports. Peruvian seafood exports reached US$1.6 billion in 2005.
