Lonza steps up malic acid production in Italy
Lonza Polymer Intermediates, a division of Lonza Group, said it would expand the production capacity of its malic acid plant in Scanzorosciate, Bergamo province, Italy. The capacity would be increased from 8,000 tonnes a year to 12,000 tonnes a year, and this expansion would be completed in end-2006.
The move came in response to rising demand worldwide for malic acid, which is mainly used in the food and feed sectors.
Lonza is also a major producer of maleic anhydride, the basic material for malic acid production.
