China's First Threonine Plant Starts Production
An eFeedLink Exclusive Report
At the Eighth Annual China National Conference on Feed Production Technology recently held in Changchun city, Jilin province, Global Bio-chem confirmed that it has already begun the production of threonine. With this development China no longer depends solely on imports to satisfy the country's requirement for threonine used in feed production.
China's feed industry consumes about 40,000 tons of threonine annually. Global Bio-chem has been able to tap on micro-biotechnology to successfully develop and produce threonine locally for the first time in China. Global Bio-chem's current production facilities allow it to produce 5,000 tons of threonine per annum. Upon completion of an expansion plan by 2005, the plant will be able to produce more than 10,000 tons of threonine per annum.
Threonine is one of the essential amino acids supplemented in poultry and livestock feed. The addition of threonine to animal feed could help enhance the biological value of protein and provide a well-balanced diet for animals. Threonine also assists protein absorption and reduces ammonia content in animal waste, thereby minimizing environmental pollution. Above all, threonine helps to improve animals' overall health and wellness.
