Ukrainian pig count climbs to 8.5 million heads
In October, Ukraine's pig population rose by 0.3% or 26,700 heads compared with September, to 8,522,900 heads as of November 1, 2010, reported the State Statistics Committee.
Pig population shrank by 0.1% or 4,900 heads compared to September, to 4,780,900 heads in private farms, and grew by 0.9% or 31,600 heads to 3,741,700 heads in specialised farms.
The pig population rose by 11.6% or 884,100 heads against November 1, 2009.
Specifically, pig population grew by 12.4% or 412,200 heads in specialised farms, and by 11% or 471,900 heads in private farms.
In September, the pig population went up by 0.8% or 67,300 heads compared with August, to 8,495,900 heads as of October 1, 2010.
