South Korean swine in Andong province tests positive for FMD
Pigs from two farms in South Korea's Andong, North Gyeongsang Province have tested positive for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).
The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said on Monday (Nov 29) that the pigs at the farms were confirmed positive for the disease in a test conducted by the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service.
One of the two farms has some 5,500 pigs while the other farm has around 3,500 pigs. The farms' owners had requested quarantine officials to conduct tests for the disease when some 200 piglets all died last weekend.
The agriculture ministry said it has taken quarantine measures for cattle farms suspected of being infected with FMD in Andong and North Gyeongsang Province.
