South Africa 2007/08 corn production set at 7.125 million tonnes
South Africa has finalized its 2007/08 corn production at 7.125 million tonnes, a rise of 3.1 percent on an estimated provided in August, the country's Crop Estimates Committee said on Thursday (November 29, 2007).
The crop consists of 4.315 million tonnes of white corn, underestimated by 4.3 percent, and 2.810 million tonnes of yellow corn, which was underestimated by 1.2 percent.
CEC member Rona Beukes said the committee's survey includes weekly harvest reports from the South African Grain Information Service and its own survey on the quantity of corn retained on farms.
