Russia reports another outbreak of African Swine Fever

Another outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) has occurred in the Kuban region of Russia, Russian media announced last Thursday (Nov 25).

Russian press agency, Itar-Tass, reported that the disease has been recorded in five districts of the Krasnodar region. They are Krasnoarmeiskaya, Temryuk, Starominskaya, Kurganinsk, and Novopokrovskaya.

"There is a danger of ASF spreading throughout the territory. The entire population of 1.1 million pigs is at stake," Krasnodar governor, Alexander Tkachyov, said.

107 outbreaks have been reported in Russia. At a special World Pork Event, organised by breeding organisation Topigs during the last edition of EuroTier, it was said that African Swine Fever may become a threat for Europe if it continues to spread from Russia.
