Global markets

In Europe, methionine supplies were relatively tight with spot prices at Euro4.70-4.85/kg. Price quotes for 2009 have not been released but market participants were speculating that prices would be softer.

Market analysis

Overall livestock feed demand remained weak; moreover, feed millers stayed cautious amid uncertain domestic economic situation. Consequently, prices of methionine slid with other feed ingredients, despite higher broiler feed consumption.

Market forecast

China's methionine prices are seen weak in the near term. However prices are unlikely to fall sharply as recovering broiler feed demand would lend support to methionine prices.

*Commonly referred to in China as liquid methionine is methionine hydroxyl analogue, a liquid source of supplemental methionine.
