Romania to be the first European live cattle exporter to China
On November 26, Romania signed an agreement with China on live cattle exports, sealing the cattle trade agreement between the two countries.
The first shipment of about 4,000 to 5,000 cattle is expected to start in January 2014, which will make Romania the first European country to export live cattle to China, and the fourth in the world after Australia, New Zealand and Uruguay.
An estimated number of 500,000 Baltata romaneasca (local cow breed) cattle would be exported to China over the next seven to 10 years, which could bring in revenue of €500 million (US$678.61 million) to Romanian cattle farmers.
The agreement was signed during the visit of Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang to Romania.
