ECO Animal Health receives Russian approval for Aivlosin antibiotic

Russia has given the first marketing permit to ECO Animal Health for its flagship animal antibiotic Aivlosin.

Russia is one of the fastest growing pork producers in the world and the seventh largest market in total.

The Russian authorisation comes just four months after the US granted ECO its first marketing authorisation for Aivlosin 625 mg/g water soluble granules for swine. The approval was granted by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture for a dosage of Aivlosin 42.5 mg/g premix.

ECO Animal Health described the approval as very important. Russian pork production between 2006 and 2011 rose by 50%, driven by both domestic demand and import substitution and a growing adoption of large scale, intensive production techniques.

Peter Lawrence, ECO's chairman, said, "This latest authorisation in Russia is another extremely encouraging and positive step in the development of Aivlosin as a truly global brand and underlines ECO's commitment to becoming a major force in the international market for veterinary pharmaceutical products."

Aivlosin is a patented macrolide antibiotic to treat respiratory and enteric (gut) diseases in pigs and poultry.
