UK allocates US$147 million to boost fish and seafood industry
The UK government allocated US$147 million to boost the local economy and finance projects under the European Fisheries Fund.
UK fisheries ministers divided the money by giving US$39 million to England, US$39 million to Scotland, US$18.9 million to Northern Ireland and US$1.6 million to Wales.
Separate funds will be made available for Cornwall (US$10.8 million), West Wales (US$15.8m), and the Scottish Highlands and Islands (US$18.3m).
The grant scheme is designed to modernise and improve the sustainability and competitive edge of UK's fishing industry.
Jonathan Shaw, UK Fisheries Minister, said the fund will make a significant difference throughout the industries as it will boost long-term prospects for the UK.
The Fisheries Administrations is yet to announce details on the timetable and how to apply for grants after a consultation on priorities will be conducted early next year.
