Sri Lanka state corporation to start fish canning factory
Sri Lanka Fisheries Corporation would be building a US$50 million fish canning factory in the southern city of Galle in a joint venture with a New Zealand based firm, the government said Monday (Nov 27).
The US$ 50-million project has been given 19 acres of land by the Southern Development Authority, in a memorandum of understanding signed with the foreign firm.
The factory would have the capacity to can 105 tonnes of fish a day. Around 45 tonnes of fish would be packed in cube form and around 90 tonnes of waste left over would be used to make fish food, Fisheries corporation chairman W A J Fernando said.
