China's Jilin sees 29.3 million tonnes of corn output

China's Jilin Province has reached an output of 29.3 million tonnes of corn for 2012, with the unit yield at 6.98 tonnes per hectare.

Given the stable planting area, the province has achieved grain output rise for nine straight years through technological innovation.

Jilin has ranked the top province in terms of corn output in the past several years. "It is of great significance to ensure a further rise of unit corn yield in the province as part of the efforts to guarantee the national grain security," said Luo Zhenfeng, deputy director of Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

China is expecting to harvest 201 million tonnes of corn this year, up 4.1% from last year, according to data from the National Grain and Oils Information Centre.
