South Africa raises 2008-09 corn production forecast
South Africa's final summer corn production forecast was increased by 309,200 tonnes, or 2.6 percent, to 12.05 million tonnes from the previous estimate, the Crop Estimates Committee said Thursday (November 26).
The production forecast for white corn was higher at 6.775 million tonnes, from a September estimate of 6.771 million tonnes.
The yellow corn production forecast was raised to 5.275 million tonnes, from the previous estimate of 4.970 million tonnes.
The production forecast for sunflower was 801,000 tonnes from a September estimate of 843,503 tonnes, a difference of 42,530 tonnes.
