Vietnam's shrimp export up in first ten months
Vietnam's shrimp exports totalled 170,283 tonnes the first ten months this year, up 7.4 percent year-on- year in volume, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP) on Thursday (November 26).
The hike was worth US$1.35 billion, said VASEP.
Export markets for Vietnamese shrimp include the European Union countries, Japan, the United States, China, the Republic of Korea and countries in the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations.
In this period, shrimp export of Vietnam to the European Union countries, one of the three main export markets of Vietnamese shrimp, experienced a year-on-year increase of 22 percent in volume to 33,000 tonnes and 15 percent in value to over US$228 million.
But exports to the United States went down by 6.2 percent in volume and 15 percent in value; similar in Japan, down 4.5 percent in volume and 2.8 percent in value.
In the first ten months, shipments to China and South Korea also saw a significant growth over the same period last year, said the association.
Vietnam expects to export more shrimp in the last months this year as it is the time for shrimp export to pick up, said the association.
