German pig association goes for Iletis vaccine
The German Association of Pig Producers (ZDS) has drawn attention to the Iletis vaccine to improve consumption in the pig-fattening phase.
The ZDS referred back to studies by the Dutch University of Wageningen which revealed that pigs administered with Iletis vaccine were feeding 25 grams more than their non-vaccinated counterparts.
At the end of the fattening period, the vaccinated pigs weighed 2 kilogrammes more and the utilisation of the feed was 0.2 points better with the use of the vaccine.
With a feed price of US$29 per 100kg feed, German producers can expect an increase in profit of around US$4.45 per pig.
The more expensive feed becomes, the higher the profit to be gained from the vaccine.
