Finland's 2010 grain yield smallest in the last decade
According to preliminary data by Finland's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the country's grain crop yield in the summer of 2010 was the smallest in the whole of the 2000s.
The crop yield totalled three billion kilogrammes, down 1.3 billion kilogrammes from 2009. The decrease in the yield of bread grains, that is rye and wheat, was due to the dry weather while the yield of feed grains, that is barley and oats, decreased because a smaller cultivation area.
The yield of bread grains decreased by 15% whereas the yield of feed grains decreased by almost 35%.
