Vietnam bans poultry imports on bird flu concerns
Vietnam's General Department of Customs has called on its affiliates nationwide to ban imports of poultry and pet birds from now until March 2006, as a precaution against bird flu.
They were also told to closely work with veterinary workers and border guards, to strictly inspect and handle any illegal poultry imports.
The country's Veterinary Department reported that bird flu has already hit 16 provinces, and over one million domestic poultry have been destroyed.
