Construction of Finland's Uusikaupunki soy plant may start in 2011
Finnprotein will build a soy plant in Finland' Uusikaupunki and groundwork will likely start at the beginning of 2011, according to Timo Hermonen, the firm's technical director.
The company is now in the process of finding contractors for the first phase of construction. The cost estimation for the first phase totals EUR70 million (US$93.78 million) to EUR80 million (US$107.18 million). The plant is likely to become operational during 2012.
When the plant is in full capacity, it will process approximately 400,000 tonnes of soy annually. At the moment, there are no plans to use genetically modified soy.
