Malaysia's halal meat sector unlikely to succeed internationally
There may not be much international success for Malaysia's halal meat as meat exports are not the country's strength.
Aside from being unable to meet domestic demand, Malaysia's meat industry also fell short of international quality standards, said marketing expert Prof Dr Linda Scott of Oxford University's Said Business School.
Malaysia imports most meats and exports some chickens, but its chicken parts have difficulty meeting international health standards, she said.
Instead, Scott said Malaysia could delve into non-meat halal products, which it could do well on the international stage.
