Possible new leak of foot-and-mouth virus in UK

The UK environment secretary warned on Thursday (November 22 2007) of a possible new leak of the foot-and-mouth virus from a government lab site linked to an outbreak of the disease earlier this year.

Environment Secretary Hilary Benn said in a written statement to Parliament that an inspection team was sent to the site to investigate on Wednesday but that the live virus had not been released into the environment.
