Blue Seal Feeds to expand feed mills

US-based Blue Seal Feeds which manufactures and distributes a variety of animal feed products has been working on improving efficiencies at two of its eight feed mills located in the northeast and mid-Atlantic states.

As part of the expansion, the company began operation of a 40,000- square feet animal feed distribution centre in Hagerstown, Maryland early this year and also has plans to construct and equip a 60,000-square-foot building next to the company's existing facility in Arcade, New York. The company would invest US$2.8 million in this regard.

According to Jerry Flakne, vice president of human resources at Blue Seal, an additional square footage in warehouse storage space would provide for a better distribution centre.

Flakne said the additional space includes more than twice the warehouse space and room for additional manufacturing and packaging processes. The expansion brings storage to one location, improving both production and distribution efficiencies.

Besides, the extra space would also better position Blue Seal to further expand distribution from that facility into the South through South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, he added.
