Philippine's customs allows hog raisers to inspect meat shipments

The Philippine Bureau of Customs (BOC) has just allowed accredited hog representatives of hog raiser associations to join the BOC team in inspecting incoming refrigerated vans and other agricultural products at the Port of Manila (POM) and the Manila International Container Port (MICP).

BOC Commissioner Napoleon Morales called the hog raisers to a conference to seek measures in the drive against smuggling.

Aside from the hog raisers, Morales also welcomes the active participation of other concerned associations and the general public in their combat against illegal trade.

The conference tackled among others, proposals for the dumping of the twelve (12) container vans of decaying meat presently impounded at the MICP. The said shipment should have been condemned, but the people and local government of Bulacan prevented the bureau from doing so.
