China hit by new bird flu outbreaks
China has been hit by new bird flu outbreaks in the north-western Ningxia Hui autonomous region and the south-western Yunnan province, authorities said.
The H5N1 strain of bird flu had reportedly killed 2,500 poultry in Chuxiong city, Yunnan, recently. 230 poultry also reportedly died of the disease in Yinchuan, capital of Ningxia Hui.
The government has sent teams of experts to help control the disease, while local authorities have culled poultry within three kilometres of the affected areas.
Official reports stated 99,400 and 66,800 poultry were destroyed in Yunnan and Ningxia Hui respectively.
