Yum Brands consolidates business units by brands

Yum Brands Inc will combine the US and international divisions of KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, while keeping its China and India units separate as part of a reorganisation that will be effective from January 1, 2014, according to a Reuters report.

"We believe that having 100% focused brand teams will enable us to more aggressively accelerate growth," chief executive David Novak said.

The China and India units will remain separate given their "strategic importance and enormous growth potential", the company said.

The company will report results for KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell and for its China and India divisions beginning fiscal year 2014.

Yum is the biggest US restaurant operator in China, which traditionally accounts for more than half of the company's operating profit. However, KFC China's third-quarter sales and profits were impacted by adverse publicity surrounding a poultry supply incident in December and subsequent news about avian influenza in the region. Same-store sales for KFC China fell 14% during the quarter.

As a result, Yum! Brands, Inc.'s earnings declined by 68% during the third quarter of fiscal 2013.

The company has also been investing heavily in India.
