US plans for safer pork import

The US Health Ministry has presented "Action Plan for Import Safety" to cater for pork imports sold in the US market.

The plan will be implemented middle of 2008 in lieu of food scandals and meat recalls.

The US Department of Agriculture said the plan is geared to make imported meat safe as US-produced, and not to make imports more difficult.

Leavitt added that US would work together with importing community, foreign producers, exporters and governments to ensure and improve the safety of imported products.
