Chicago plans to ban residential chicken rearing

Some Chicago officials expressed plans to ban the keeping or growing of live chickens in residential areas.

Animal control officials said that they have received more than 700 complaints about residential chickens this year.

Chicago alderman, Lona Lane, initiated the pushing of the ban through the City Council's Health Committee. The proposal is expected to pass at a council meeting next month.

Lane implored that the presence of live chickens in residential areas could be very unhealthy to the residents --- as it does not only create stink but could also attract rodents.
