UK culls poultry on 5th premise on bird flu concerns
The UK's Department for Environment, Food And Rural Affairs said on Wednesday (November 21, 2007) it is conducting a precautionary cull at a fifth premise due to bird flu concerns.
"This decision has been taken based on new information which indicates the possibility that the poultry on this premise may have been exposed to infection," UK Acting Chief Veterinary Officer Fred Landeg said.
Defra added that these premises are within the existing Surveillance Zone and have been under restrictions and investigation since November 15.
On Monday, Defra confirmed this year's second case of H5N1 bird flu strain in eastern England. Approximately 28,600 birds were culled on the previous four premises.
