Malaysia's FMD outbreak under control
The situation at two farms in north-western Malaysian state of Penang, where some pigs were found dead with FMD symptoms, has been brought under control.
Suspected FMD pig cases had been separated and pig exports from Penang banned; the affected pig farms would also remain closed till all suspected cases were cleared.
Officials from the Veterinary Services Department added that the outbreak was not a serious one.
It was reported on Nov 18 that at least 10 pigs were found dead with FMD symptoms, at two pigs farms in Nibung Tebal, Penang. Initial tests by the Veterinary Services Department showed the pigs might be infected with FMD.
The authorities had taken blood samples from hundreds of pigs at the two farms for clinical tests and official test results would be released only later.
