Cherkizovo Group has opened Novonikolskaya, the first poultry production facility of the Eletsprom project, in Dankov District of the Lipetsk Region.
Construction of the US$30 million Novonikolskaya facility began in August 2012 and lasted for just over two years. More than two million chickens were placed in 56 bird houses at the 93,000 square metre facility. The bird houses are equipped with the latest technology in the poultry industry.
Chief executive officer of Cherkizovo Group Sergei Mikhailov said that the facility will produce 28,000 tonnes of meat per year. Mikhailov added that the company will soon be opening several more sites, including a grain storage facility in Elets District and the largest hatchery in Europe.
Governor of Lipetsk Region, Oleg Korolev, who attended the opening ceremony, commented that the facility produces about the same amount of meat as the entire Lipetsk Region in 1990.
The Group is a major poultry meat producer in the Lipetsk Region. Kurinoe Tsarstvo OJSC, which is part of Cherkizovo Group, produces more than 60% of all poultry meat in the region.
