Guangdong's pigs to use electronic ear tags

Guangdong province expressed plans to attach electronic ear tags to its live pigs supply to Hong Kong by 2008.

This is geared to ensure food safety and improve work efficiency, according to Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau on November 14.

Currently, the Bureau is using electronic ear tags in four cities, namely Guangzhou, Jiangmen, Huizhou and Heyuan. It has also attached ear tags to more than 3,000 live pigs in 85 batches transported to Hong Kong.
