Schering Plough, Intervet merger gets nod

The US Federal Trade Commission has approved the appeal of Schering-Plough Corp. to acquire Organon BioSciences N.V. from Akzo Nobel N.V.

The buyout will combine Schering-Plough Animal Health with Organon's Intervet Animal Health business to create the largest animal health company in the world. The acquisition was cleared by the European Commission in October and is now expected to be completed by the end of this year, according to an announcement from Schering-Plough.

The announcement said, in connection with the clearance, Schering-Plough and Intervet will divest three poultry vaccines that are not considered material to the merger.
