Argentina offers soy assistance to Pakistan

Argentina extended technical assistance to Pakistan in the agriculture field in general and for plantation of soy crop in particular, as Argentina is the biggest grower of soy and Pakistan is a large consumer of the commodity.

Argentine ambassador Rodolfo J Martin-Saravia stated this at a meeting at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday (Nov 17).

The ambassador said there are a number of other sectors including CNG in which Pakistani businessmen could learn from Argentinean experience.

LCCI senior vice president Ejaz A Mumtaz said trade between Pakistan and Argentina over the last five years has averaged around US$68.72 million. During 2004-05, Pakistan's exports to Argentina amounted to US$28.4 million against imports of US$66.8 million.

Ejaz said the major bottlenecks in promotion of trade and economic activities between the two countries are lack of information about business opportunities available in the two countries.

Argentina offers huge opportunities to Pakistani businessmen, particularly in livestock and agriculture sectors in which they can initiate joint ventures with their counterparts in Argentina.
