Canadian pig farmers to get aid for vaccinations

The Canadian government announced a US$25.4-million aid for pig owners and herd managers under a special Circovirus Inoculation Program (CIP).

Funds are available for pig owners and farm managers whose animals were part of a herd from March 1, 2006 to December 31, 2008.

If any animal is positive for any porcine circovirus-associated diseases (PCVAD2), the producer will receive full reimbursement of the vaccination costs.

Fifty percent of testing expenses would also be covered by the programme which involves amounts of US$152 per test.  The government will give a maximum assistance of US$508,000 for testing and vaccination per applicant.

Canada's pig farmers who are identified on government and industry lists will be forwarded with application forms. The deadline for funding applications is on December 31, 2008.
