UK's first organic mill invests in poultry feed technology

Vitrition, part of Kiotech International, which is in charge of the longest established organic feed mill in the UK, has invested in a new cooler and crumbler at its Boroughbridge facility.

The new cooler has been set up to enlarge capacity and keep pace with the busier mill. It will also continue to support the mill's excellent biosecurity record.

The recently built crumbler will allow Vitrition to provide customers with a "crumbed" product for starter feeds to table birds and turkeys. It will also offer layer feeds in crumble form instead of mash or pellets, enhancing feed intake in difficult flocks.

"We fully recognise the importance of ensuring young birds are supported with adequate nutrition to meet their growth requirements," said Claire Holton of Vitrition.

"The high nutrient density organic ration we supply will have better uptake in a crumb form which will ensure the key nutrients are provided to the growing bird, thus optimal FCR and weight out of the brooder are maximised," she said.

Vitrition has been in the organic feeds industry since 1968 and has a product range assigned to suit all classes of livestock. It also provides custom mixes to cater to individual farm needs. The company is accredited through the Soil Association and Organic Farmers and Growers and provides full technical support such as a dedicated organic nutritionist.
