Vietnam seafood producers face serious shrimp shortage

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said that seafood processing factories in the Mekong Delta region have been falling short of shrimp for processing.

The association said shrimp supply for the factories was thin, resulting in rising prices, the Information Center for Agriculture and Rural Development reported.

Do Ngoc Tai, vice president of Kim Anh Co. Ltd in the southern province of Soc Trang informed that the company bought around 50 tonnes of shrimp daily a month earlier, but currently, it can buy only 10 tonnes.

Prices of sugpo-prawn shrimp increased by VND15,000-VND20,000 per kilogramme to VND150,000 per kilogramme for 20 shrimps, VND110,000-VND120,000 per kilogramme for 30 shrimps.
