Ukraine to extend grain export quotas up to July 2011
The Ukrainian government would prolong the grain export quotas until July 1 next year, Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said Tuesday (Nov 16).
"The balance sheets will be calculated in December, and a decision will be made that the quotas will be prolonged – this is certain," Prysiazhniuk said.
Prysiazhniuk added the quota volume and methods for their distribution should be published in December.
According to the ministry, Ukraine has exported over 5.5 million tonnes of grain since the start of the current marketing year.
"Taking into account the quota introduced until late 2010 (2.7 million tonnes), in the first half of this marketing year Ukraine would export 8.5 million tonnes of grain to foreign markets and no more than five million tonnes in a second half," the minister concluded.
