Paraguay eyes Asia, South American pork markets
The markets of Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela (in South America) together with Japan and Korea (Asia) are potential markets to the export of Paraguayan pork meat, said Camara Paraguaya de Exportadores de Cereales y Oleaginosas (Capeco).
In 2008, Paraguayexports of pork meat surpassed US$3 million or 2.000 metric tonnes. The hog sector injects US$3.4 million annually in the Paraguayan economy.
According to Capeco, Japan is the world main importer of pork meat followed by Russia, Mexico, Korea and China that jointly represent 74 percent of the total imported worldwide.
The main providers are the EU, Canada and Brazil with 87 percent of the total.
