Estonian grain export from the 2009-10 yield drops 19%

 
 

Estonia's grain exports in the harvest period from July 2009 to the end of June 2010 totalled 259,799 tonnes, marking a reduction of 19% from the same 12-month period a year ago.

 

Grain imports meanwhile dropped 27% to 136,173 tonnes.

 

Grain deliveries to other member states of the EU totaled 224,821 tonnes, which is nearly 8% less than in the same period a year ago. Imports from the EU to Estonia, at 133,053 tonnes, were smaller by 21%.

 

Estonia's total grain harvest during the period was 873,466 tonnes, a 1% improvement over the preceding harvest period. The average yield per hectare was 2,761 kilograms, a year-on-year decline of 1%.

 

The total growing area of grain increased 2% to 316,412 hectares.

 

Grain consumption in Estonia climbed 3% to 728,356 tonnes.

 

Of the grain 516,686 tonnes was consumed as animal food and 111,500 tonnes by humans. Grain set aside for seed totaled 71,867 tonnes.

 

Consumption of grain by humans totaled 65.43 kilograms per resident, 4% more than a year ago.
