Saskatchewan harvest nears completion

Dry and sunny weather allowed Saskatchewan farmers to make significant harvest progress over the past week, the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture said Friday (November 13).

Province-wide, the harvest was said to be 92 percent complete, which compares with 80 percent the previous week, according to the ministry's crop update.

The harvest was nearest to completion in the southeastern and southwestern regions, at 95 percent and 99 percent done, respectively. The northeast was the farthest behind, at 78 percent complete, due to wet weather the previous week, said the ministry.

While the drier weather has helped decrease the moisture content in some crops, many were still coming off the fields in tough and damp condition, the report said. As a result, grain driers were running across the province.

Farmers with fields left to harvest were focusing on finishing the canola first, the ministry said.
