Alltech's Sel-Plex receives green light from EFSA

Press Release

Global animal health and nutrition company Alltech announced that several human health claims relating to Sel-Plex - an animal feed supplement - have been accepted by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

The EFSA Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies (NDA) has accepted health claims linking the dietary intake of Sel-Plex to the ''protection of DNA, proteins and lipids from oxidative damage, normal function of the immune system, normal thyroid function and normal spermatogenesis.''

Sel-Plex, from Alltech, is the only FDA reviewed form of organic selenium, and is the first strain specific form of organic selenium to be EU approved for all animal species.

Selenium is an essential nutrient for both animals and people, and plays a critical role in metabolism, normal growth, reproductive health, and immunity. Because of its specific organic form, Sel-Plex is better absorbed and retained by the animal.
