China's Global Bio-chem To Become World's Largest Lysine Producer

An eFeedLink Exclusive Report

China's Global Bio-chem Technology Group Company Limited, a subsidiary of Changchun Dacheng Industrial Group, announced the completion of Phase I of its RMB 5 billion lysine production expansion project in late October.

The company's annual lysine production capacity will be increased by 120,000 tons to reach 240,000 tons. This will make Global Bio-chem the largest lysine producer in China with the highest production capacity in the world.

Wang Dehui, Assistant Chief Engineer of Dacheng Biochem Engineering Company and Director of China's Feed Technology Engineering Centre, said that as an essential feed additive widely used in feed production, lysine has significant market potential.

Changchun Dacheng Group is presently the largest China-foreign capital joint venture enterprise engaged in the processing and manufacturing of corn based biochemical products.  It has been recognized in China as a leading State-level pioneer enterprise engaged in agricultural industrialization; and has been accorded high priority status from the Ministry of Technology as a high-technology enterprise.

Compared to the 10,000-ton annual production capacity of the Group when it first started its lysine production operations slightly more than five years ago, the Group's achievement of a realized output value of RMB 5 billion and a profit of RMB 800 million for Year 2003 is commendable.

During the 5-year period, Dacheng Group tapped and garnered the advanced technologies and production facilities of Germany as well as the US to help it to develop its own leading-edge technologies.  It also implemented good enterprise management system and recruited a qualified team of Chinese as well as foreign experts to conduct technological research and development.

The adoption of advance technologies and creative research methods enabled the Group to achieve a number of breakthroughs in fermentation technology, among which, the development of lysine-sulfate production technology since September 2003 has made Dacheng Group the second company in the world to possess such a technology.

Currently, in the production of feed-grade lysine-hydrochlorate, Dacheng has also successfully developed new types of 65%-lysine, threonine and glutamate products.  In particular, the development of the new 65%-lysine product type helps in lowering the cost of production, increasing effective usage of feed and cut down pollution of the environment. This has received widespread and positive response from end users in the market.

According to Wang Dehui, under Phase II and III of the RMB 5 billion production expansion project, the company will see a 600,000-ton and a 10-ton increase in production capacities for cornstarch and glutamic acid respectively.  Dacheng Group is also actively engaged in the research and development of food-grade as well as medicine-grade lysine products.
