Market analysis

Lysine availability was inadequate as local producers limited output while imports decreased as CJ reduced supplies to China. Meanwhile, deliveries were delayed as the government tightened controls over carriage limitations of trucks. In the northeast region, snowstorms disrupted transportation, hence aggravating the supply crunch.

Demand wise, hog feed producers stepped up production while the hog market showed signs of recovery, hence lifting the sales of lysine.

With demand warming up and supplies scarce, lysine prices surged over 15% during the period in review.

In Europe, price quotes for Q4 deliveries were in the range of EUR1.25-1.28/kg.

Market forecast

Local production of lysine will be limited in the near term due to lack of raw ingredients while slow deliveries further tighten supplies in the market. Tight availability will underpin prices in conjunction with soaring import costs due to the depreciation of renminbi.
