US broiler chicks increase by 5 percent
US broiler growers in the 19-State weekly program placed 168 million chicks for meat production on the weekend of November 10, a 5-percent increase from last week.
Cumulative placements from December 31, 2006 to November 10, 2007 were at US$7.92 billion, a surge of 1 percent on-year.
US commercial hatcheries have set 217 million eggs in incubators on the same weekend, registering a 4-percent growth from last week.
The average hatchability of chicks during the week was 83 percent.
