Vietnam's Hai Phong hit by bird flu
Vietnam's Hai Phong municipality has been hit by the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu. Local authorities reported the deaths of 100 chickens and 900 ducks in Thang Thuy commune was due to bird flu, following tests. Hai Phong is 100 kilometres east of Hanoi.
The virus has already been reported in 57 of Vietnam's 64 provinces and cities, after mass bird deaths were discovered in early 2004.
Hai Phong marked the 10th Vietnamese province or city to report new outbreaks since early April this year.
