Monsanto expands rapeseed production in Peyrehorade, France

Monsanto announced a major investment in its oilseed rape (OSR) hybrids which are used by UK growers and expanding its plants in Romania, Hungary, Turkey and most recently at Peyrehorade in France, which will directly benefit Britain's farmers.

Peyrehorade currently exports corn and oilseed rape to 30 countries.

Anne Williams, Monsanto's oilseed rape product manager for Western Europe, said: "We believe this is one of the best areas for high quality hybrid OSR seed production in Europe, it allows us to achieve excellent isolation for pure seed production and a very early harvest allowing us to process and certify fresh seed in good time for early planting in the UK. The investments will help us to deliver reliable supplies of the newest hybrids to UK growers sooner."

The latest investments in France will allow the company to double throughput and reduce processing time.

Williams said they will be using industry leading seed cleaning and drying systems to achieve the best quality hybrid oilseed rape seeds for UK farmers.
